| INDIAN KICKBOXER OWN GOLD MEDAL IN 1ST ASIAN MARTIAL ART GAMES |
In the recently held 1st Asian Martial Arts Games organized by Olympic Council of Asia(OCA) on 01-09 August 2009 in Bangkok Indian Kickboxing team excelled with one Gold and three Bronze medals. |
Ms Laxmi Tyagi of Delhi defeated her opponent from Mongolia in quarter Final and then Khazakstan in Semi Final round and finally defeated Thailand in her -52kg women Low Kick fight and own Gold medal for the country. It is unbelievable in the history of Kickboxing that an Indian women defeated such strongest fighters from these countries, but Ms Laxmi did it with strong determination and created history. |
There were 18 nos of country taken part in the Kickboxing Game through their respective National Federation and NOC. There was excellent arrangement of accommodation in 5 star Hotels with wonderful reception as well as farewell. Both the Opening and Closing Ceremony was par Excellency and very much enjoyed by one and all. |
Olympic Council of Asia has been organized 1st Asian Martial Arts Games for the first time by including Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Kickboxing, Kurash, Muay, Pencak Silat, Taekwondo and Wushu & Kung Fu. The National Teams only taken part through their concerned National Olympic Committee in this historic event. |
International Referee Engineer S.S. Harichandan represented the country as the Technical Official and acted as the Official Jury Member for WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation which was responsible in controlling and conducting the Kickboxing Game. |
Mr. Montu Das was the Team Manager where Mr. Mohan Singh was acted as the Coach. Two nos of Coaching Camps conducted for the selected Kickboxers at Delhi and Kolkata successfully by IAKO under the direct supervision of Engineer Harichandan. |
Shri Rajeev Meheta was headed the Indian contingent as the Chief-de-Mission who appreciated the sincere efforts of IAKO in promoting Kickboxing in India and honored the medalists. |
| The Indian contingent was lead by Indian Olympic Association with the representations of the National Teams in all the games except Pencak Silat. Indian Kickboxing Team was selected by IAKO as per the strict guide lines of IOA as follows. |
